The beautiful surrounds of the northern Grampians is the scene for the First Step Weekend – a weekend of Professional Development for Artistic Directors, Group Coordinators and those interested in developing arts in the disability sector coordinated by Australia’s only regional disability arts festival Awakenings. The weekend was originally developed a few years back as the ‘first step’ for artistic directors and those involved in bringing groups to the region’s Awakenings Festival. It has now grown into an integral part of the development of arts in the disability sector.
Brush up on your acting skills, learn to work as a team member, get lots of new and exciting ways to create performance and have a great time doing it.
Born In A Taxi Melbourne based improvisation theatre company offer work that is flexible, diverse and accessible. Dance, theatre and movement.
Way Out West a program of Arts Access will offer ensemble members and artists Katrina Gabb and Lindy Maccauley as trainers. Their work uses innovative communication such as Makaton, visual arts and ancient mythologies for story telling.
The training for artists/performers and directors with and without a disability is fabulous fun, accessible to everyone and a weekend away in the beautiful Grampians with your peers. Its all active, everyone gets involved. You will learn lots of practical games, exercises and skills to take back to your group.
